nurse my cat back to health
Tube-feeding a cat with liver failure 1 year ago

The best description I’ve heard yet, from a woman in central Wisconsin, is that the process is messy and putzy, but well worth it.

I agree. After six weeks, my cat’s feeding tube has been removed, and he is well on his way to being the healthy, mischievous, demanding king of the household he was before he became anorexic.

I’ll know I’ve achieved this goal when I can leave him the same food the other two cats in the household get, and not worry who is eating what anymore!

my cat has the same thing

hi,

this is so great to hear! we just got home a few days ago with our cat from the er who also had a tube put in. what was your cat like for the first week? do you have any advice? i’m having a hard time finding any information and would love your input since you were so successful! cheers, jen jenrudolph@hotmail.com

Best wishes for your cat's recovery

Jen,

Here’s a picture of our cat, Mack … all healed and healthy after his brush with death! There is every reason to be optimistic about your cat’s recovery, provided you are willing to dedicate (and I mean DEDICATE) yourself to the project for several weeks.

My cat was tiny, withdrawn, and subdued in the first week. I wasn’t sure whether he was going to make it. To see pictures of him when we first brought him home from the weekend in the animal emergency center, check out http://www.flickr.com/photos/shrnmc1/tags/mack/page8/

I do wish you all the best in bringing your cat back to health. Our journey was a long, arduous one, recorded in detail in my blog, which you are very welcome to check out. Here is the archive of the oldest postings: http://shrnmc.blogspot.com/2007_03_11_archive.html

To read the story chronologically, just click on the next archive link, on the right side of the page.

If you would like to see pictures documenting how we prepared the meds and food for tube-feeding, please check out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/shrnmc1/sets/72157600080392599/

Unfortunately, those photos make the most sense when viewed from the bottom of the page to the top … but you’ll get the idea!

If you have any questions at all for me, Jen, please enter them as comments on the blog posting that prompted the question, and I’ll be happy to give you as much detail as you can tolerate (and more, I’ll wager!).

Best wishes,
Sharon
