I will try to eat only when I am hungry and only to the point of feeling slightly full. I will add smaller portions onto my plate or bowl…unless they are veggies!

Not that I’m an expert on healthy eating, but I’m wondering if it’s better to eat BEFORE you’re hungry. The conventional wisdom these days seems to be pointing toward 5 small meals per day as opposed to 3 bigger ones. Good for you for having the wherewithal to limit your portions and increase your vegetables.

I think it would be hard for me to want to reach out for something when I am not hungry. I suppose it makes sense. At work, they don’t want us to eat at our desks. And if I eat so many smaller ‘snacks’ a day they might think i am constantly eating! I said I would TRY to eat when I am hungry…but that doesn’t always work out if you have a set time for lunch at work! Sounds kind of like jail doesn’t it? Hahaha!

I’ve put back on some, but…I did manage to lose nearly 50 pounds through regular exercise AND “pre-emptive eating” making sure that I don’t go more than 3 hours without eating something—particularly meals and snacks high in lean protein as well as low caloric density (such as non-starchy veggies).

That’s great! I know I should start to exercise again. I don’t necessarily care about the weight issue. I just want to be more toned, so definitely I have to do some form or exercise. The best results I ever had were from my yoga practice. It is pretty hard to watch what I eat especially when get togethers are always over some sort of meal!
I have actually never gone on a diet before. I would rather exercise than diet!

I’ve really gotten hooked on working my body in three ways: cardio (for keeping my endurance up and weight down) weight training (so I can keep picking up my 6-year-olds and other heavy objects without hurting myself) and flexibility just because it feels good to be able to move my body any way I want to!
As for the diet bit, for me some of it is for my mood. I think I react to sugar the same as a little kid! I get a high at the beginning and then crash and get depressed and grumpy. I never realized this until I cut refined sugar out of my diet altogether for a few weeks and noticed a big improvement in my mood—I became much more even-keeled!
I’m with you, though. It’s all about health, not really about weight. In fact, when I was still fifteen pounds above my “goal” weight, my wife warned me that I was already looking too thin… Waddaya know? We can be too thin! ;-)

I never cut the refined sugars from my diet before. Maybe I should try that. I was thinking about the Master Cleanse plan. But secretly? I don’t think I can go any number of days not eating! I think if I had to not eat and just drink fluids I would have to take time off of work! I could just pass our from not eating!
I know for a fact that we can be too thin. I was thin for most of my life so far and to me I felt really skinny. I am not skinny like the Hiltons..but you did see my chest ribs and skinny legs. I have spread out body wise but I am very comfortable with it. I was trying to gain weight forever! I would just rather be toned with a little bit of muscle definition. It would also be nice to feel my phone vibrate when it is in my back jean pocket! Hehehe!

You sound a lot healthier now than when your ribs were showing! I know what you mean about the muscle, though. I also like the functional improvement: being able to lift and carry things with less effort.
I know a number of people on 43T swear by the Master Cleanse plan, but I’m not really interested in it myself. I need to focus on building good habits to replace the years and years of bad eating habits that I’ve developed.
One good habit that I’m building is drinking lots of water. Apparently we can sometimes feel hungry when in fact we are dehydrated.
To your health! ;-)
it’s gonna sound stupid, i know, but…you ready for it. Use smaller plates. I did this and somehow I ended feeling fuller off of less food. It’s strange, but true.
Also, the pre-emptive eating thing sounds like it could work. It would up your metabolic rates and make your body burn off calories faster. But, I’ve heard the tricky part is finding the right rate of eating that works for you.
Either way, keep up the good fight.

Yes I heard about the smaller plates thanks! I am thinking about a “cleanse” 1st. Even with the healthier eating I am not eliminating as well as I should. I have been reading up on fasting to eliminate the toxins in the body. I am worried about the just liquids kind of thing, so I will try a more gentle approach first. Have you tried any of that stuff?

I am down to my last 10 pounds now. I am not in a hurry to get it off. I don’t really care too much about the scale. I just want my body to look good to me. It just needs over all firming up! My yoga practice is doing my body and mind good!
