How to work because I like to, not because I have to
"It was liberating!"
How I did it: I started teaching piano lessons and got a freelance job on the side through a friend, so I could be completely free of crappy restaurant jobs (like the Olive Garden) and retail. If you have a marketable passion, it's worth considering a change of jobs.
With that said, I'm no longer working (except the freelance gig), because I'm a full-time math major now.
Lessons & tips: Don't settle for less than you're realistically worth, and do something you care about.
