...sure the adventurerers appears to be a normal organization of young american students who like to talk about stamp collecting and penpals, but it looks like something more has happened. For the first time ever, Enrique and Maria were the only two to go to the movies. Out of all of the adventurerers, only them. This is the first time that this has happened…
It didn’t take long for Enrique to start laying down a couple of feelers here and there, I like your company, I like being alone with you, and so on.
Well, a long short story, short, and it looks like we have some romance in our story. They are dating. Mind you Enrique owns a motorcycle (he got it for his birthday a couple of chapters ago), so who knows what he is up to… Yes, I am saying that girls cannot trust a guy with a motorcycle.

No shock here, Maria picks some young handsome athelete of a spanish guy and Enrique does too. The emails are very boring, they don’t even come close to what I write in my emails with pen pals of the opposite sex. Why is it that the 17 year olds in these books come across as 12 years olds??? Come on, nothing keeps you reading more than some sexual tension. Who writes these things????
I wonder if this spanish reader is as universal as the Leduc family and their dog pitou that I read about in my highschool french reader. Millions of Canadians are familliar with the antics of the crazy little dog…

they have a spanish poetry recital contest. Apparently it is a multi-school competition… Oh Joy. Given that Enrique is a spanish speaker, I am guessing he isn’t allowed to compete. This means that Maria must win this competition…
Shock of all shocks. She wins.
This is like a bad episode of Star Trek, where the people flying the ship are also the landing crew, the science team, the engineers, etc….
This had better improve or my spanish lessons may end here…

that I hate or the author of this page turner. But as it turns out, Enrique is the best player on his football team and as well, the captain of the football team… Figures. I guess if you only have 3 characters in your college, each character has to be a lot of things, but come on… So far, they didn’t mention that he was the quarterback. Also, a football team is a pretty big team with a whole host of specialists, so to call him the best player on the team, that is a little odd. That said, they have a team full of great players and they are the best football team in the league. I am not sure if they are trying to teach me superlatives in this chapter or not but regardless this was the ‘peor’ chapter so far.

It turns out, he and I share some of the same problems. For example, he went to a meeting yesterday and was waiting for the school director. He got impatient (that isn’t like me, I can zone out for hours these days, just take free time as semi-open eyed sleep time). Turns out he was a day early for the meeting. I have missed meetings by days so many times that I double check days now. He finds this out and says Bad luck… WHAT?? Bad luck?? No bad planning. In any case, maybe I was wrong about this Enrique guy…

BEFORE I GO ON, I MUST WARN YOU, IF YOU INTEND TO READ ‘THE EASY SPANISH READER’ THERE ARE SPOILERS ON THIS SITE. READ ON AT YOUR OWN RISK.
So, I may have been wrong about Maria.
You see, a new girl has moved into town, Louisa. A sexy little minx from Puerto Rico. Of course Enrique jumped at the opportunity to invite her to a sing along dance that the spanish group, the ‘Adventureras’ is putting on (I may have been wrong about Enrique too, but maybe not, he might just be over compensating). Of course, Maria quickly jumped on board and nearly forced Louisa to come (More overcompensation??). I think this may be a case of keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Maria might be a little less naive int he ways of love than I had earlier implied. In any case, Louisa, with her suitably ethincally extended family will have to get her parents permission before attending… We will see what her parents say…

but, I have picked up a couple of books that I have wanted for awhile. I don’t have much access to spanish books in Vancouver, but the Easy Spanish Reader showed up at my local Indigo store.
So I am learning all about Enrique and Maria and their college of Glenview. So far, I have discovered that Enrique is from Spain and his traditionally ethnic family is suitably large, while Maria, who comes from California lives in a palatial mansion with only her mother and father. Also, Enrique is the president of the spanish group. I suspect that he is ridiculously handsome and also the quarterback of the football team. I am sure that Maria lusts for Enrique, but I am pretty sure that Enrique is gay. He doesn’t hide that fact, but Maria doesn’t understand the signals he is giving. This relationship will be the beginning of a bad pattern for Maria. Mind you, I haven’t gotten that far yet, so I could be wrong.
In any case, I think reading stories will be very helpful for my learning. I love reading. I will keep anyone in the loop regarding Enrique and Maria if they would like.

Okay, I have been having difficulty with this ever since I started. It was a year ago that I decided I would learn spanish, after my first trip to Mexico. It was a work trip and I felt very rude not being able to speak spanish at all, so I figured I would learn.
I have always been terrible at languages, so I knew this wouldn’t be easy, but I had no idea…. I don’t think I have found the best way for myself to learn yet. I think immersion might be my only way.
I tested out the demo of Rosetta Stone and I really, really enjoyed how it worked and I think this could be a good learning tool for me. I have heard good things, but I don’t want to just throw money at my learning problem and hope it will go away. I was going to ask if anyone had experience with this program, but then I checked the questions section and found that question already asked.
So to make a long story short, I have found this group, right here in Vancouver. I think I should join, maybe next week…
