Someone just told me about a train ride 4 months ago

through Glacier Park to the east side of the Divide. They said it is a fun day trip that is affordable.

I can walk to the train depot from my house…sounds intriguing.

One of the actual wonders 1 year ago

of living in the wilds of Montana is this afternoon I took a break and took a drive to Glacier Park. Well West Glacier exactly. It is only 25 miles away.

Even though it was overcast and misty the drive was breathtaking. I’m going to have to keep my digital camera with me in the car.

The New Do’s and Don’ts for Carry-On Luggage 2 years ago

Times have changed and with them traveling has become more challenging especially knowing what you can or cannot take on a plane while you are going to Grandma’s for Thanksgiving.

Can you bring cough syrup on the plane? Does gel count as a liquid if it’s in your bra? The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) banned all carry-on liquids this past August, but recently revised the rules to allow certain items onboard. TSA spokesperson Nico Melendez gives us the 411 on how to pass security and the surprising items that will get you stopped at the door. Plus: How would you handle a crisis?

Adding in learning to speak the romance languages 2 years ago

fluently is something I have always wanted to do. I am ahead with the French because I took it in school. Secondly the Spanish because I live in Texas. I threw in the Italian because I am going to the Mediterranean before I die. :)

The last trip I took 2 years ago

was to my brother’s funeral in April of 2005. That really is sad considering how much I enjoy exploring the world.

I started taking care of children at the age of 9 as the oldest child in my family. One of the reasons I had my own children very young was because I wanted to be free to do the things I love and still be young enough to enjoy my family too when they were grown.

Even with the few detours life has given me the basic plan has remained intact. Now that I am well again it’s time to take a few more trips.

Maybe I could become a travel writer/photographer…now that would be cool!

Traveling 2 years ago

is my ultimate treat for working very very hard!

My deceased husband was an Attorney and taught me the value of monthly get aways to rejuvenate. We would take a 4 day weekend a month to slip away to Hot Springs, New Orleans or Padre island just to relax and get away from the phones.

Even a road trip to San Antonio was a delightful mini vacation!

I did not keep that gift alive the past few years…but I think for August a road trip/weekend in the Hill Country will be delightful. I especially love Fredricksburg and Luchenbach.

A friend from 43 T 2 years ago

sent me a beautiful postcard from Hawaii showing the black sands and the frothy whites waves of the ocean.

Yesterday I found a combination picture frame/photo album I had forgotten I had. It is a silver frame with gold sea shells. It was stuck away in a box and has gotten a little tarnished. It will be fun to shine it up.

The postcard was made for this frame! The album is empty. The perfect place to put pictures of my new adventures inspired by being on 43T. ;)

P.S. I put the picture in my office space to remind me how blessed I am to have friends like you.

It's only a whimsical notion~ 2 years ago

I think I will travel to Rio using the music for flight.

Wonder what the stars know 2 years ago

that I don’t? My horoscope is usually right on the money about my days.

None of your past accomplishments can help you now—it’s a whole new ballgame.

A happy end to an old problem coincides with an opportunity for travel.

Dust off that passport and make sure all your papers are up-to-date. When adventure comes calling, you’ll definitely want to be ready.

Years ago in Yellowstone Park 2 years ago

I spent a July to remember.

A group of friends decided to spend a month in West Yellowstone. We piled into an old van with our basic belongings. Anything that would fit into a backpack.

One of my friends had a friend whose family owned a local motor lodge where we got room and board for cleaning the rooms in the mornings. It was a cool arrangement for financially challenged college kids.

Yellowstone National Park was the very first National Park in our country. It is a beautiful blend of prairie where the Bison roam to majestic mountains.

“A thousand Yellowstone wonders are calling, ‘Look up and down and round about you!’” John Muir – 1898

Yellowstone sits on a caldera and is a region of 200 lakes and beautiful geysers. Millions of visitors come to see the majesty of live volcanic action every year.

We were no different. We spent our mornings working at the motor lodge and the afternoons exploring the Park taking pictures of the wild life. The evenings were spent partying in town with the local kids our age.

One night one of the locals invited us to go hotpotting. This is highly illegal now and probably was then but we were up for the adventure.

Hotpotting is swimming (skinny dipping) in a hot spring among the geysers…so it was very important to go with someone who knew which geysers were the hot springs.

We walked in the moonlight along the wooden paths between the geysers to the place they knew was safe. Then we all sat together basking in the warm water under the stars. It was an experience I’ll never forget.

I couldn’t tell you which geyser it was. They all look the same to me. A few years later I heard someone actually got into a geyser that did boil them ~
