there is a very short sort of track at the local elementary schoool. after a walk in the evening, my DH and I sometimes go over there. I can do 1 lap at a moderate speed, and 1/2 lap at a full run. it is probably only 100 yards all the way around, but that’s something.

went for a walk with DH and decided to run a part of the way back. I ran full out for maybe all of 10 seconds, up a smallish hill. When I stopped I thought for a moment I was going to be sick, and gasped for air half the way back to the car. But: I’m not in good shape. I’m only just right at the line between overweight and obese, according to the most generic H/W BMI index. so this is a big deal for me. I miss my young, stong, thin self. She’s in here somewhere, and I’m finding her just a bit at a time.
I had to walk to the school to put an aluminum can in the bin, and I ran, sprinted really, to the stoplight on the corner. Though I’m in somewhat better shape with the excercises I’ve been doing lately, and my shins didn’t hurt at all, the short burst of running had my unaccustomed lungs burning, which is a little embarassing, but with practice, I hope to get better. Prospects increase as the weather warms.
Would like to do this thursday night after the hockey game.
Week 1: Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.
Instead of trying to do this 3 times in 1 week, which I sadly don’t have time for, I think I spread it out over 3 weeks. still, this is more tenative and less important than some other goals, but, I would like to get up at 6 on saturday and actually go for a run.

My biggest problem would be a 3 day commitment. I would like to try to start on this, but no garuntees yet.
