HDD - hard drive dementia 1 year ago

A week since O volume decided to up and go, P Q R followed suit and now I just don’t know. Neglect (it’s easy to say) is an easy culprit, but seriously, the disk housing all these four was – as I look up my purchase records – bought just 15 months ago. Damn shoddy manufacturing. And damn lazy disk management as well. I’ve been busy all this week; but it would’ve saved me some measure of grief had I paid attention to the signs.

Nothing direly important in the, no wait. Photos. RAW and JPGs, post-processed work and ok-rez scans. The latter can be rescanned (and at much better resolution even), but the RAW’s lost for now. Maybe in 2-3 months I’ll attempt a disk recovery. Or maybe even next month. Right now I’m just frustrated disgusted whatever you wanna call it. Distraught. Too worn out by this data fade to care.

In related news though, look who’s decided to make a comeback. Drives H I J (on a separate disk) are on like nothing was ever wrong. After a couple of months, my tunes are restored like nothing was ever off. Like it was all a bad dream. So. I hope this is the same case with the other disk. Give it a bit of a rest, put it back later, cross my fingers, hope for the best, that sort of thing. If the two hours tonight didn’t make a difference, well, what else is there to do but wait, yeah?
