Housing Affordability - a Pipe dream 2 years ago

Building more houses in outskirts of CBD will not solve the problem

Maybe this is my alternative

Holding back.. 2 years ago

I don’t ever want to be in a position where I can’t leave a job I am unsuited for because of my morgage. So I am holding back until I have enough cash floating around so I don’t have to be slave to my morgage and my job (well more so than now anyway!)

According to this
“Sydney was ranked seventh in a list of 99 cities[where housing is most unaffordable], with residents needing 8.5 times the median annual income to buy a home. It was the only non-American city in the top 10.”

Where are those portable houses again? I saw a link somewhere here on 43 but have lost it.. argghh

I'm fantasising again.. 3 years ago

This place I checked out (a top floor apartment) got sold before Christmas for close to half a mil.. Pricey for an apartment but not too bad for that particular area.

Realistically there’s no way I can get that amount of deposit without having to take up another full time job. It’s a double income world when it comes to property in Shitney.. SacrĂ© Bleu!

Postponed for a little while 3 years ago

The market is softening which is great; I hesitate to rush into it though. In the meantime I am planning to save and travel (they sound like mutually exclusive goals right now but I am sure I can manage some savings) Having said that I am keeping an eye on the property market trends, just in case.

Silver lining! 3 years ago

Housing prices are dropping! It’s not a crash as all the doom sayers predicted in the last two years, but it has slowed down. This is indeed great news for me – I can’t compete against DINK couples!

Half a dozen houses in the beach front suburb near my area are up for sale.. Inspected an open house today… will see how the market behaves in the next few months!

delay: approx 6 months 3 years ago

due to what the financial planners called “diverisifying the investment” .. in laymans terms: spending money on useless stuff that other peoople have convinced me has good ROI!

A Ray of hope! 3 years ago

For the first time since becoming financially independent I was able to find something I like and can (barely) afford in a nice suburb.. its not a house, but its something! I think it’ll serve very nicely either as an investment property or to live in..

Having said all that.. I’ve got at least another year to go before I can stop browsing the realestate sites and actually start inspections!.. Nevertheless one has to persevere..and don’t never lose sight of the big picture..
