diligently doing my homework- mes devoirs! starting to recognize more words- mot du jour! feeling pretty good about my progress, mainly because i haven’t stressed myself by trying to measure my success in terms of how many verbs i can conjugate, how many adjectives i know, how high i can count to and all the other thousand of things i don’t know. happy with what i know. j’aime françois encore. :-)
it’s encouraging to read the posts from people who are sticking to it and sharing their resources (weblinks).
merci everybody- and keep up the good work! don’t give up.

Well- actually I can only speak in the present and the past so far. And honestly I can write more than I can speak. Doing French homework has proved to be more relaxing than frustrating. Doesn’t mean that I don’t make mistakes. It does mean that I do enjoy learning and cannot wait to be able to speak French with someone else other than my teacher.

That means homework. It’s great to have a weekly lesson. I should probably have a two-week intensive course for a couple of hours everyday but this is much better than studying by myself. I just have to keep up with the homework- do 15 minutes a day to make sure I remember things. J’aime Français!

Oui! I signed up for a weekly French course. It’s great to be able to talk to a someone. I’ve been faithfully noting down the mot du jour and I can now count to soixante-neuf.

yeah am at a snail’s pace on this one. practiced my numbers today. still on 20 but i tested myself and didn’t do too badly. i looked up the number of a local french teacher to ask for advice on whether i should take a class or she could tutor me or recommend someone. somehow i shall continue- but i should start talking to a native french speaker soon, ne c’est pas? (oh is that right/correct?)

I’ve started a french notebook to help me remember what I am learning. I just took an old notebook partially used but it’s so cute I couldn’t bear to throw it away- at least until it’s all used up with French. So far I have the Mot du Jour (what would be the plural in French?) listed as I learn them with the examples. I keep it open and next to where I am working so I can glance at it a few times a day. I’ve also started learning how to count. So far up to twenty. Whenever I have to count something now- at least the first vingt are said in French, aloud.

a word at a time is how it’s going right now because I have started on my own. I check out the word of the day at: www.french.about.com
because they also teach you how to pronounce it correctly. I have a french dictionary and How to Learn Any Language by Barry Farber which I will re-read. I am looking at getting a tutor- to learn faster or to join a local class- less expensive.
