He lives on in our hearts and memories 8 hours ago

I have not been really, consciously thinking of Simon lately. There’s just been so much else going on. But he appears in my dreams, in very domestic settings – while I’m cooking, or just sauntering through the living room. Not demanding a lot of attention, as in life, but just letting me know he’s “there.”

Last night our daughter read a book I got for her some time ago, “Cat Heaven,” by Cynthia Rylant. The combination of the picture of cats curled up in angels’s laps, and the thought of Simon being “somewhere” brought a bit of moisture to my eyes …

I love Shaker architecture and furniture. There are a couple of good Shaker sites not terribly far from here, and they’re some of my favorite places to photograph. The beauty of the light & shadow and the simple functionality of it all are breathtaking to me.

A fairly random Thanksgiving 3 days ago

Thursday morning went fairly well. I was in the midst of cooking when I learned the relative responsible for most of the feast (including the turkey) would be delayed 3 hours. This is not at all unusual for this person (though usually it’s only a couple of hours), but the realization that I probably could have put the meal on the table at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours earlier really rankled.

So we spent very little time socializing and eating with that side of the family before we had to go eat with the other side. That visit was much better – organized, calm, pleasant. Made for a long day, but things ended up okay.
