I learned of spiritual direction in Huntsville, Al and found it very helpful. It seems I always have spiritual questions or hang ups that need to be addressed, and trying to come to any resolutions with the same mind that has so many spiritual questions and hang ups is another road to nowhere. So inviting another person into my spiritual journey to gain perspective has been proven to be very helpful. I’m looking forward to the insight I will gain. How I did it: I looked at meetup.com for groups in my area. There was one that had an upcoming meeting with the assigned book. I purchased the book, read some of it, and showed up! I’m finding out that Orlando is a pretty big city. I’ve been taking pics wherever I go, however, this is going to take more than a day
I thought it would be nice to have a more formal Sabbath Observance. I was raised in the 7th Day Adventist tradition, and although I’m no longer apart of that community, I still see great value in taking a break once a week. It’s really important for the mind, body, and spirit to get rest and renewal, regardless of what spiritual beliefs you have.
So I decided I would plan a personal retreat for myself every week. And since I’m accustomed to the Jewish Sabbath, sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, I thought I would continue in this time frame.
So I’m making a list of things that I do that really refresh, renew and uplift my spirit. I know some of these things include yoga, massage, walks outside, writing, walking labyrinths, and coloring mandalas. Getting fresh flowers for the house. . .
And I’m also ordering some books to get some other great ideas. I think having a specific plan every week will make it special, not something that just happens. This is something I am actually looking forward to doing!
