Visit Ireland

Got back last week from a nine day trip to Ireland. We had a great time, despite the weak dollar and inflation overall. The trip was in celebration of our son’s college graduation. We asked him where he’d like to go and he said Ireland. So, despite my concerns about money (I’m the practical one in the family); we went. We prepaid our flight, the B&Bs and rental car last winter. We were careful where we ate and what we bought and managed to stay within the budget we alloted. We enjoyed the sights and sounds and my son and his girlfriend were thrilled. (It was her first tip out of the country and she was very excited about the whole thing.)

I wanted to live there after my two week visit. I went to Dublin, some small outlying towns and Howth. The people are nice, fun and friendly, Dublin is full of culture, history, and modern fun and the small towns/villages and seaside areas are gems.

My father is from Ireland, and my mom’s family’s from Ireland, so I really felt like I was in my ancestral homeland in a way. Weird though how much I felt like I blended in-lots of people with brown hair, blues eyes and pale skin like me. But it was OK. ;) I was taken for a local everywhere I went, until I opened my mouth.

I want to go back!!!!

I went this past summer for 2 weeks. Definitely worth it and I didn’t even need to have any Irish blood in me :)
Visited the city of Dublin, Galway, Killarney, Cork, Cobh, and Kilkenny.

Please take the time to get out to the Aran Islands if possible! It was one of my favorite parts of my trip.

My family is Scots-Irish, and I’ve never been to Ireland. I’d love to go! I want to visit a castle or two, see Dublin, and hang out in a a pub. My family is originally from Donegal. I love to hear people speaking Gaelic, and I think Celtic music is wonderful.

I was there once and fallen i love but I live in Bosnia and there is no way to goback to ireland now that i dont have any bod like relatives there:(((

I have been very much interested in Irish History, all over the silly excuse that I have a good Irish surname (even tho I’m mostly Deutscher). So, needsless to say I find it most fascinating and am rather knowledgeable about its history at this point. I have gone several times on a limited budget. Check out AreLingus for flights and go in the off season. It is still rediculously green in the winter!
