How I did it: I networked and i never gave up hope!
- I created a petition (now closed) and helped raise 1063 signatures.
- I founded a yahoo "Climate Change Action" group (now 92 global members - and still going strong)
- I created a website.
- Many groups and individuals have united to put pressure on our political leaders by writing submissions, group declarations and letters.
- I purchased Al Gore's movie "An inconvenient truth" and showed it to anyone who was prepared to see it.
- I educated my children and continue to spread the truth about climate change at every opportunity that presents.
- I continue to act.. planting seeds, turning off .. using less, not wasting.
Lessons & tips: Never give up.. when there remains one viable seed to plant and one who is willing to tend the seedling... our earth will give life and our species will survive. Future generations will look back - and learn from our mistakes.
Resources: Resources used to help..... trust in my fellow man to find solutions and make them work! Knowing that the human species, no matter how clumsy... cannot kill the earth. The earth was here long before we humans arrived and it will be here for a long time to come, continuing to give life.
Of course, our current practices may kill off billions of our own species as well as the billions of other species that share our planet, this i understand and feel very sad about. However, where there is just one with hope... who is prepared to have the courage to stand up and tell the truth.. then there remains a chance for survival.

it takes many ants to move a mountain… but… it can be done!
Awareness has been raised. Solutions are available. All we need now are leaders who show courage.

there is a great project to develop a sustainability plan for Hawaii. http://www.hawaii2050.org/ What I like about it is that its about many aspects of life, not just economic or energy. The overwhelming feeling that I got from reading it is that education is the key.

There was a story today about an attempt to build a system of solar power sites here in Hawaii that will generate 34Megawatts of power and will be one of the biggest state projects around. http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2008/Jan/09/br/br4589160372.html
Its really important for us because we are so far away from everybody else that the transportation cost of energy in the future is going to effect us to a greater extent than other places. We don’t grow our own food. I guess our only advantage is that our weather stays warm all year so there isn’t heating cost.

I do hope that the indications are correct and John Howard’s reign as Australian PM will come to an end this Saturday. Although at this stage it would be largely a symbolic gesture, it would be great to see Kevin Rudd sign the Kyoto Protocol on behalf of Australia.
I also hope that The Greens have an increased presence in the Senate so that there is a greater chance that Australia will play a leading role in getting serious about Climate Change.

Well an Australian Federal Election looms :-)
At last, its so hot out here… (rural Queensland) and just coming into summer.
I will try not to notice my brain frying when i step out to vote.
Our little e-petition grows towards its (more realistic) goal.
