I just bought a new acoustic guitar today and I can’t wait till I can actually play songs! Despite how busy I am, I’m committed to spend at least 30 min. a day practicing. Wish me luck everyone!

How I did it: I bought a very good guitar learning book. I can't remember the name and I've misplaced it somewhere. I bought my classical guitar on eBay. It is an Ibanez and new. I've since changed the strings but that's another thing. I went online and searched up tutorials and instruction videos on youtube. I self taught myself. It wasn't too hard since I'm already a pianist. But I practiced everyday for at least 30 mins. I started with scales.… Read how I did it…

How I did it: I grew up in the Bronx, NYC. Hip hop and Spanish music were prevalent, and I was knew much of the both of them, but were ultimately uninterested in both for some reason. I always felt different. Whereas my peers and I would converse about the new posthumous Tupac album, I would always stay unattached throughout. I knew other music was out there but quite frankly, I thought rock music was for suburban kids. Classical for old people. I felt… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Learnt the chords as a base, then scales, and practised strumming by playing my favourite songs, so that I knew how they sounded and where, if I did, go wrong. I mastered one song before moving on to the next and drilled them into my head. This way I built up quite a reportoire of songs that I can now play off the cuff. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I got an acoustic guitar for x-mas 07 and now about a year later of taking weekly lessons I can safely say I can play the guitar. I'm not saying I'm jimi hendrix. I just just play. It's a great feeling knowing you can play to you favorite songs and such. IT'S WORTH IT! Prove to yourself you can make ambitions come to life! You only have one life! Make something of it! How I did it: I've always wanted to play guitar when I was a kid. Last year I was emo and keep singing and miming playing guitar with earphone put on. My dad notices this and bought me an acoustic guitar last year. At first I tried playing it using a chord book. But I was quite disappointed when my dad keep saying I have no talent. I can't play. I gave up. but then this year I tried playing it and looking for chords for katy perrys song and I play it. … Read how I did it…

i’ve always wanted to learn guitar but have never considered myself gifted musically. but now that my youngest brother is teaching himself – and doing an impressive job – i’m motivated. i’ll be home for two weeks over xmas/new year’s and so i’m going to have him pound some lessons into my brain while i’m home and then continue to teach me via video chat once i’m back in california.
Did some guitar, not sure for how long, but I think I’m doing quite fairly well with it, although I haven’t even tried to do the solo bit, that’s harder! My b/f did some guitar, the same song, while I was too.
Practised for 30 mins. Fingers still sore, though. I also made up some random/crazy little songs, just messing about on the guitar. Was fun.
Shohini is all about accentuating the positive!
I got my Yamaha C 40(basic, nylon strings) on my 16th birthday, and was all gusto about playing it, then. I took these classes for a month or so from this teacher who couldn’t care any lesser, stopped that and resumed with another teacher, who was illegally moonlighting. Just my luck. Anyhoo, I know a few months with a teacher here and there ought to give you the jolt, but I never jumpstarted after.
I NEED (not just WANT) to start again, to accompany me while I sing. Till now, I’ve been managing with other people playing while I sing or karaokes. And, dad cannot highlight the need for me to learn just basic strumming more.
Next semester looks like it’s shining bright, already. All I need to do is take my pick of the guitars back home, and get going! Can’t wait!
Practised guitar for 30 mins. I don’t think I’m too bad at ‘The Importance Of Being Idle’. I also know the start little bit to ‘Come As You Are’ by Nirvana, and the little start bit to ‘Smoke On The Water’ by Deep Purple. My fingers are sore typing now still, though.
bornconfused is beginning to love life again.
I finally bought my first guitar, a little Hohner, and I’ve started learning chords! I am very excited.
Did some guitar at dads’. Had a go at ‘Oasis – The Importance Of Being Idle’, some of it did actually sound like it! I’d actually started a bit on Saturday, that’s what made me want to at dads’. My fingers are sore now, but that’s to be expected before your fingers get used to it. I’m not a total beginner, but because I haven’t learnt much I’m sort of like a beginner. Anyway, if I keep practising I’ll get better! It is a fun and good thing to do, it’s just remembering and getting motivated etc. 30 minutes a day, if I could.
I’ve always wanted to really know how to play the guitar ever since I heard my dad play so well. He can hear any song come on the radio and can play right along with it..even if he’s never heard the song before. It’s amazing and I’d love to do be able to do that.
Lothi is enjoying summer.
I received a guitar for Christmas a few years ago, but I’ve never been able to make the time to sit down and really learn to play it. With the help of the trusty About.com website – http://guitar.about.com/ – I would like to master at least the basics over the summer break. We’ll see how it goes. :)
