I have always been in a house with a lot of people. I’m use to the loud noises, the yelling, the sound of things being moved around and all the other background noises you can imagine. Now I’m out on my own and there is only me. My roomate is only here on occasion and I’m not use to the silence. Instead of using that hatred to get out more, I have instead started to watch TV constantly. Its always on and, as much as it annoys me, it has become extremely addicting.

As I promised myself I watched tv only on Saturday night. After a week away, it seemed really ‘in your face’, like a toddler wiuth ADHD. I watched the program I wanted to see then switched off and went to the pub! I’ll definitely be more discerning in what I watch (again). Life’s too short for list programs, who cares what people on tv think are the 100 worst pop acts?

Rice
broke my spleen, broke my knee (and then he really laid into me)
I seem to spend way more time on the computer. Which is just as bad!

i’m going to go at least 1 whole day without watching anything . i might even try for 2 . i know it’s not a big deal for some but i guess i’m use to it. tv is comforting to me. i can get absorbed by the movie or show sometimes and it takes away your problems even if only temporarily.

I’m starting to feel at a bit of a loose end when I’m not watching tv, wondering how to fill an evening when I have my fill of reading, cleaning and board games. Is a game of cards or a chapter of a book any better than half an hour of tv I really want to watch if I can manage to do both in an evening? I’m not a terribly sociable person and my friends live far away and it’s dark, cold and rainy so walking or cycling are out and I’m saving money so that rules out the pub/club more than once a week. Nevertheless I’m sticking with this tonight again.

i just moved in with my boyfriend, and we don’t have cable. i had it at my old place only b/c my dad moved in and had to have cable. all he does when he comes home from work is vegges in front of the tv. i had very basic cable before that, only about 14 channels. now we have a digital antenna so we get like two channels and thats it, and those don’t come in when its raining i discovered. but thats ok, i have a Wii now and Wii Fit that i am going to go play right now to loose some weight. yay!

turned off cable. Drastic change, but I am a cold turkey kind of person (see debt reduction entry). I come home from work now and games and books are everywhere instead of dull eyes. I miss football but the sacrifice is worth it. Many people say just set a schedule. The problem is that with three little kids the tv is an easy solution when you need to get things done. But i do believe the tv is bad. No shows are appropriate for small children, sarcasm, language, tone, attitude are negative on most shows and the toddler shows (barney et al) can make adults suicidal lol. Our plan is to hook tv up after we deprogram ourselves.

I started reading an anti-tv book on Sunday, so it seemed peculiar to watch tv while I was reading it, so I’ve not seen the tv since Saturday night and I’m aiming not to watch it until Friday evening at least. i don’t want to be sitting on my own all weekend!
Instead at the moment, I’m reading, playing board games with my husband and tending to odd jobs about the house. It feels more productive and generally better not to sit in front of the tube just because it’s the evening. It’d be good to use this week as the start of a new habit. TV only at the weekends and only for films or 1 or 2 shows.

I am still watching tv – I realised that I enjoy it and it helps me to unwind – so I don’t want to feel guilty about that.
I am doing better at confining this to a couple of hours per evening, and trying to do something else, like update 43 Things (!) or knit, while I watch.
