Perhaps this is just the naive whining of one of today’s “young people”...but I refuse to participate in the so-called “democratic” system of voting…considering the fact that this country bases the decisions of several hundred party loyalists in the electoral college in choosing the next leader of this country, in my mind, completely takes the general population of out the voting equation. This is why I’m not registered to vote, nor do I plan on registering in the future…only until we allow the “average joe” to have their say in the government, sans the interference of the rich and powerful, will this nation truely be free…plus, I’m really pissed about how much money the gov’t expects me…a full-time student who only works part-time…to pay in taxes…ridiculous!!!
we’re just rats in a maze… everyone’s using us for their own gain… My manifesto is coming, but it will probably be banned.
I will post examples of The Man’s efforts to thwart freedom and individuality.

Oh, I suppose I was on a memory tour of rock history this weekend when I remembered the RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. You may have heard of them; they play feel good protest music that somehow or anther turns into near-riots or full-blown riots.
Well, after wacthing some old school clips of them:
when the closed down Wall Street and Michael Moore was arrested:

when they palyed accross from the DNC in 2000 and independent reports later said the police “created” a riot situation:

I have had the chance to hear Rage play “Killing in the Name” one time in my life and let me tell you it made every single person wearing a badge/uniform squirm in their boots. Speaking “truth” to authority always causes problems.
In conclusion, the words of Zack de la Rocha sum it up the most as far as oppressive regimes are concerned, “Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me.”
p.s. – the photo is a 15 minute silent set the members of Rage did to oppose Tipper Gore’s censorship group PMRC.

Okay, I am as cynical if not more so about rock star or celebrity attempts to be “socially conscience”. Might come from my years of working with Amnesty International and my jaded view of celbrities in general.
But I was watching some youtube clips that were explaining to me even more why I am a hugo Obama fan and frightened by the Cllinton royalty;
and the lots of Bono stuff came up and despite his usual rock-star persona I had to admit he is creating change! The man has the ear of humanitariian agencies around the globe and even forces meetings with lame-as-hell-duck Presidents of the United States.
Then came up the video of U2 and Greenday, and while I have been a hesitant fan of both (until I saw Greenday live in Seattle in front of a drive-in-movie-theatre-screen and hung out with them backstage) . . . and well U2 I fell in love with them for WAR and JOSHUA TREE and got pissed off at them for suing Bay Area artists and stealing their entertainment concepts for Zooropa . . . but possibly I forgive them for creating great music since and well . . . gotta agree that Bono has been using his fame in a positive way!
Back to Greenday and U2 doing “the Saints Go Marching In”, as most people realize, “the Saints” is the official song of New Orleans and this song and video actually premiered when the New Orleans Saints football team had its first game post-Katrina in the New Orleans Superdome(on Monday Night Football of all hightening dramatics). The same Superdome where thousands of Louisiana residents were evacuated to for days after a lackluster response by their own government more concerned with a misguided foreign war.
And so yea, I think i have grown to love the U2/Greenday collaboration!

My landlord told me I couldn’t hang things on my apartment walls. Oh yeah, I hung things on ‘em. Stickin’ it to the man.
We get 2 (two) fifteen minute breaks for an eight hour shift at my primary job. I just punch back in, THEN finish my sandwich. Stickin’ it to the man.
Seatbelt laws? The driver-side belt in my truck doesn’t even work. Stickin’ it to the man.
The dress code at my secondary job doesn’t allow employees to wear shorts, but doesn’t specify gender in regards to skirt length. You know I wear a Utilikilt every day in the summer. Oh snap! Stickin’ it to the man.

People get caught up the rules without questioning them? It’s always silly things, like how long of a break you take at work (Even if there is absolutely no work to do and your boss is on vacation) and that sort of thing. People call it work ethic.
I’ve never seen people taken advantage of as much as the people with “Good Work Ethic” do.
I believe in work ethic, it’s not as though I’m a deadbeat or anything. It’s just that I don’t believe anyone should let the people who are paying them as little as possible to do the work they want to do should just let themselves be metaphorically prostituted without some sort of defiance.
There’s not a fine line between being appreciated for what you do and being taken advantage of; People should realize that.

How does one go about Sticking it to the Man when one does have to have a job?
you cant always let people control your life especially not some stuck up guy in an ugly suit
in quitting my Big 4 English Conversation Factory School and going to work for a small independent place wherein i am a REAL teacher instead of an entertainer/saleswoman. and now i’m laughing as the Big 4 Schools get stuck by the Japanese government. ha! ha!
