Coqueangela is feeling more and more optimistic.

this week...... 1 day ago

ok. Tomorrow monday I’m meeting with the electrician at the store location to show him what needs to be done (basically, have the whole electricity wired into the store) and to get an estimate. I met with the contractor and I’m going to call him tomorrow to get his estimate as well.

Papa is leaving tomorrow on a business trip so I’ll have to do this by myself. Which is what a business owner does, right? right.

I’m excited about finally moving forward with this. On tuesday I’m going to the bank to see if I get a loan to start construction.

The fears are actually propelling me in a positive direction, I decided that staying stuck will only lead to failure (finally, I am moving ahead of my mind’s fears!!!)
Let’s see what else this week brings!!

and not looking back. I went to the store location again today with an independent contractor my father in law (Papa) suggested would give me a better quote for the construction I need. Basically:

-walls
-flooring
-ceiling and a/c
-electricity (this is the toughest, because each tenant has to run their own complete cabled electricity from the outside to the inside store location)

He’s going to give me a better quote for the job, being that he works independently. Papa said that it’ll possibly be about 10k, which would be wonderful, because then I’d have more money to invest in the actual store setup.
And about the loan I was soliciting from the government, since they have not responded I am going to leave the submittal there and go look to an independent credit union to give me a personal loan of 25k next week. That’s what I was most worried about, since 25k with the other contractor would not have been enough to get the store up and running. (He was going to charge me around 22k!!!!!!!!)
So things are definitely moving along, though I do have some reservations about money and if I will have enough before I have to start making payments to the bank after I get the loan. That’s what worries me most now. I do think it’s par for the course, no? I mean, every new business owner worries about money coming in, more so now than before. I just hope I don’t lose the joy that being a store owner gives me in my dreams.

I spent a year working for someone else, learning the skills of communication with clients. I’m grateful for the mentorship that I was given. This is the first year in my adult life that I am able to spend a significant amount of time with my family for the holidays!

i would love to start my own business that in some way gives back to others.
i got this idea from listening to an amazing speaker who came to my school
who gives microloans to woman in developing countries by selling jewelry.
she inspired me to want to give something back to the world.
but i don’t really know what i could do to do that.
im only 17,
how can i start my own business and make a difference?

Ugh 5 days ago

So life happened. I have a “real” job with real responsibilities and owning my own business got shoved in a corner. But since this is a dream, it won’t die and it’s nagging at me again.

I have two ideas that I really want to pursue, and the good thing about that “real” job is that I might actually be able to fund them.
1. Event planning
2. Jewelry design

I’m learning project management skills and realising the importance of timelines, so my next step is to create a work breakdown structure for each goal. Nothing like a deadline to motivate a person!!

Yesterday I spent nearly all day making a banner for my shop, then today I created a new website and avatar for it, too. Lookin’ good!

I still have to:
Set up the shop rules
Take product pictures
Make another round of inventory

Whew!

Start my own business. 1 week ago

I’ve got the idea, and am putting a timescale in place, so that I’ll know if this is practical within the next couple of weeks. If I don’t get this started in this timescale, then it’s not going to be practical to do it for the next year or so, so that’s an added incentive to get this going!
