I’m having my first gig on the 20th of December ..
Hold Ur thumbs people :D !! so excited
How I did it: Networking is such a big help! My former intern started deejaying on the weekends for Top 40 radio as part of his gig, and he knew the ones doing it in the clubs. I was fascinated in it, then one night, he took me downtown and I shook hands with the guy that was deejaying that night. I told him I was interested in trying it out. He called me the next day and asked if I was available because he was double-booked. That first session was AWFUL, because I didn't know where most my music was in the library, but as the weeks went on, it got better and better. It was short-lived because it was affecting my full-time job, but fun nonetheless. Nothing better than getting a packed club dancin.
Lessons & tips: Network with those who do it! Then, practice at home. Buy the equipment. Learn about 50 songs and learn them well, so you can perfect them. Then as you phase out old songs and add new ones, you'll be more familiar with them and it will sound professional no matter what. After that just hang out then ask to try it every now and then at no cost. Get your feet wet on it, then take one gig on your own.
Resources: Numark CD-MIX2 got me through it. It was a CD-based system, but now they have MP3 players and such. I'm out of the loop on that stuff now, but about $2k in equipment costs is a good start.

I got a mixing software demo (decadance) and now I want to get fruityloops too and start making and mixing my own songs!
I’ve dreamed of working in fashion since childhood however, beginning somewhere in my early twenties I began to fantasize about being a DJ. I love music, especially Hip Hop. DJ’s are usually trendsetters in there own right, hence my admiration. I’m currently making a list of all the equipment I need to purchase…two turntables, a microphone…
I would love to do it again and be a fun morning show esque DJ, but I get to run the sound board, and to weather, traffic, community announcements and record spots! It was incredible!
