I really want to mantain my health by doing something that will make me feel more confident and keep my body in shape. I like my body now but I would want my stomach to be toned abs are optional, just want it flat. Briefly in my youth I enjoyed gymnastics and I think this is up my alley. In case anyone’s wondering, I don’t plan on becoming a stripper or for that matter ever showing people what I’m doing. This is just a private activity I wish to persue without being judged. My first hurdle is saving up the money for the blasted pole…
herenion is feeling phat
This really goes hand in hand with my “get down to 70 kilo’s” goal. I figure pole dancing will be something I’d enjoy, and its a sexy, fun (I assume) sport!
I really don’t think I am fit enough to do this.. yet, but oh well.. we shall see! My only main problem is trying to find a place to take lessons in my town.. I might have to travel up to Wollongong (an hour away) to do it. I might have to research that..
I think when I find a place, I might wait until I am down to 90 kilos before I begin lessons. kind of like a reward :)
We’ll see!
I started dancing in my early 40s and taught myself at home. I’m now 48 and not only manage my own school but have had incredible opportunities to meet people around the world.
I have studends over 200 pounds, up to 68 years old, and many with no dance or athletic background whatsoever.
It’s more about a state of mind than it is about physical strength. That feeling you get after a couple of drinks (JUST one or two!) and you loosen up on the dance floor?
Well you learn to get there in pole dancing WITHOUT the alcohol. Infact, you should NEVER drink and pole dance. You learn to let go and enjoy the movement.
Agility comes with practice. Advanced pole work will require more strength some of which comes simply by practicing the pole moves themselves.
Anyone can do this but don’t expect too much from yourself early on – give it a little time and keep at it and you’ll find your comfort zone and style.
I guess it was only worth doing because occasionally it occurs to me that my lover isn’t missing anything by staying at home with me….
As part of a bachlorette party over the weekend, we went to Flirty Girl Fitness and took a class in pole dancing. It was harder than I thought it would be. You need to have some good upper body strength. I ended up with a couple of bruises and definitely sore muscles, as did a few others in the party. I think it would be a good workout and help you work on balance and flexibility.

so i went to my pole dance intro class and who knew it would bring out so much emotion. for one I didn’t think I was as out of shape as I am. two feeling on my own body was just so difficult for me. I am a size 8 and SHOULD be fine with my body but for some reason I hate it. I was in tears because I was so discusted with myself. All the other ladies in the class completely enjoyed themselves and had their cc in hand to pay for the next class. I was just so out of my comfort zone, which was a complete suprise to me because I was so excited about taking the class and not nervous at all. So why is it that the other women in the class (older, bigger, smaller, pretty, not so pretty) were able to just DO IT? Personally I think they are all normal and I am the one that has the issues. How wonderful they can truley enjoy themselves and I am the one who was emotionally tramtized! I admire them. I am going back for another intro class and plan on taking an 8 wk course to just get over this funk I am in. Why do I give myself SO MANY rules? Why can’t I do this?
I have been looking into buying a pole. I really like the xpole but i have vaulted ceilings. I only found a adapter for vaulted ceilings with the super pole by platinum stages. Does anyone have some knowledge on what to buy and whats good?
