I want to help build a house. I also want my girls to help. I think they will have fun and learn at the same time.
How I did it: Actually, I did this with a different organization that's probably a copy-cat group. Regardless, I've actively built 4 houses in Mexico over the last few years. It's amazing what a handful of unskilled volunteers can create out of a pile of materials in one weekend. It's absolutely fulfilling to hand over the door keys to the family who's been eagerly awaiting shelter. Read how I did it…

mulysamaybe wonders if she is human or dancer...or what that even means.
Yesterday evening, I had my first volunteer orientation for Habitat for Humanity of the Greater SF Area. The volunteer director, the Habitat office employees, and all of the other prospective volunteers were all amazing people. Deb, the volunteer director, was such a fun and enthusiastic individual, and someone I would genuinely love to work with on a daily basis. There were two other volunteers in the room that are professional architects during the day that wanted to share their experience with Habitat. This is definitely a crowd of people I wouldn’t mind being surrounded by for a volunteer project.
New home building in San Francisco will not begin until November. In the meantime, I have decided to help volunteer with the Family Selection process and am eagerly awaiting an e-mail from Habitat.
jin is rocking life!
Today marked the second day of we building a house for HFH. And I was having so much fun!
I am so glad I’m actually doing this.
now that the summer break is on. I’ve really been thinking a whole lot about helping out with all this extra free time that I’ll have.
Since I was 9 months pregnant when we were building our own house..I couldn’t help out. I worked in the kitchen part during the build week. I have, though, helped out a friend’s house that got us into the program a few years ago.
This Charming Man is off to the Emerald Isle for the weekend! Mine's a Guinness please!
OK, I’m not removing this goal from my list because it;s something I still feel do-able.
Fair enough, the move to work in New Orleans rebuilding didn’t work out due to unseeable misfortune, but I remain optimistic and who know what’ll happen next year. It may be all systems go again.
I decluttered my list with goals that I was hoping to achieve from the move to USA but I will list them here, just to remember that if it every is back on again, they are still achievable.
1. Live in New York
2. Help victims of hurrican Katrina
3. Go to a mardi gras in New Orleans.
4. sing ‘Walking in Memphis’, whilst walking in Memphis.
If you know a teenager, take them with you to work on a Habitat for humanity home. The community spirit, the gratitude and the team work are wonderful. Everything about Habitat is great.
Got Papi? (Papacito) is headed back to Microsoft! :D
We went to our first Habitat meeting last week. It was cool.
We learned about how the Univ. of Montana offers free classes in construction techniques to Habitat volunteers (6 free classes).
I was REALLY hyped about that for many reasons, primarily because we will make friends. I also am keenly interested in learning hand-on construction techniques for future building projects.
The classes start in a week or two.

in my hometown this weekend. I really want to do this. It is going to be hard with my new focus on being more busy with work but perhaps I can do some weekend work. I really need to make a contact with the organization. I cant really do anything if I dont know when the next projects are.
