I’ve been dreaming about taking this a cross country road trip from Philadelphia to San Diego and back since senior year of school. I’m getting ready to go into the military and am doing the trip next month before I leave. My plan is to go straight across the country to San Francisco stopping in Cleveland, Chicago, Kansas City, Denver, and Salt Lake City. I spaced it out this way so i can enjoy the trip keeping driving 8 hours or less a day. Then I’ll head down to Southern California from San Fran visiting LA/San Diego and embark on my journey back through the southwest and texas before shooting up the mississippi. I plan to stop in Vegas, Grand Canyon, El Paso, San Antonio, New Orleans, and finally St. Louis before shooting back home to Philadelphia. Its about 7200 miles and will take about 30 days since I’ll be stopping in each city. I mapped it out and believe I hit just about all of the major American sights and cities…
metrojourno28 14 days until moving day!
Is there anything I should make sure to check out. I want to stick mostly northern/central (spent time growing up in Texas, don’t need to go back), but wanted to ask the question so I don’t miss anything cool on the way out. We’re planning to visit Chicago, Minneapolis, etc., along with Denver and SLC.
Any suggestions?
Hi to anyone that can help me with information on driving across America.
I am planning a trip in 2009. I have heard about car “wrapping” and would love to hear from anyone who has done this. I beleive some companies provide the car already wrapped and then you pay for fuel etc and take the car advertising as you drive. I hope to travel from the East to West Coast and visit as many states as I can within the period (without driving 24/7 !!!).Any information you can provide is welcome- thanks in advance.
P.S I’m 40 next year but still think I’m 20 and want to do this trip while I am thinking this way …hahaha.

I recently moved from my home in Las Vegas to Florida. I started out by going to my home town where my parents live in San Diego. Drove across the country and stopped in San Antonio to see and stay with some friends for a couple days. So without adding those 3 days it did indeed take me 3 full days of driving. I wish I could have lollygagged a big more and take in more sites but I was on a time crunch to get to first day of Flight Academy. But I love the open road, seeing the country change from Ocean, to dessert, to oil fields, to swamp was very cool. And talking to the people when I could and hearing the accents change in each state was equally amazing.
After graduation my best friend and I are planning on hopping in her van w/ a mattress in the back and crusin through the entire country! (minus HI & AK) It’s always been one of my dreams. We’re going to keep it as cheap and care free as possible, it’ll definately be one of those memories we’ll never forget! :)
