Start playing guitar again

tonight I came home, drank some wine while cleaning the kitchen and listening to my mp3 player, got nostalgic and tried to learn a new song. does this constitute starting to play the guitar again? technically, sortof. so I guess I’ve done this. But, what I want is to play guitar more seriously, the way I did when jason was my guitar teacher and came over every week and I gave him my $40 in hard earned cash and he got gruff about whether I’d practiced seriously and I’d set my guitar to some alternate tuning and he’d teach me to improvise. I loved him for that. I got better and I played during the week and I made up songs with my little tape recorder running. It was a serious endeavor. It mattered. Now it’s just something like a cobweb in my life. I don’t want that. I want the seriousness I had about it when I had a teacher and I had something to live up to. I think my new goal will be taking lessons again. That will be something to strive for… once I accomplish the money job goal…

I would like to pick up my guitar at least once a week and play for the kids. I think they would enjoy it and it would give me some much needed time to relearn. Maybe even learn some kids songs!

I’ve played for 10 years now, and this previous year I’ve played very little. The first 6 years, I played almost every day. I have the time to at least pick it up for 1/2 hour a day, some days 1 hour.

...now, the focus is on improving!

I got an electric guitar for my birthday! This should definitely expedite this goal! :D

I’ve been playing guitar since I was five when my dad taught me, but I got out of it while in high school (partly because I never learnt how to tune it properly)

Recently I learnt how to tune it and I really want to play again, only… I’m out of practice and I need to learn a number of cords which I could never get the hang of when I was younger, and then start playing again.

The whole time my guitar has been in storage, I have had such an itch to play. Yet, while it wasn’t in storage, I rarely touched it, seriously hurting my ability to play if one could ever say I could play. I thought the good thing about that was I could learn from the ground up and be better the second time around. The guitar is still in storage and I’ve decided instead to buy a bass and take a swing at that since it’s the one instrument that perplexes me. I’m also teaching one of my friends to play drums and another to play guitar. We’re all new to our respective instruments and in this together. By the end of the year, we better be jamming!

I am what they call a southern paw, but I am right handed in life. Its a feeling of comfort to have the guitar positioned strumming with my left hand. If I pick up a righty guitar it just doesn’t feel right, so I turn it around and it feels more natural. I took a classical guitar college class, the instructor was fantastic, I learned the basic chords, and some strumming techniques. It takes alot of time and practice, which I seem to have very little of as of late. I think I like the guitar because its a nice melody especially when one cannot sing :)

I have been playing guitar since I was in 7th grade but the past year hasnt been a very good year for my old acustic and me, so I need to get her re-strung and re-tuned so I can play her again

Haven’t played in years. Suddenly have irrepressible urge to play again…
