greets the new year with hope and excitement
I’ve always been afraid to ice skate, and never got off standing near the wall when in the ice arena. Today I actually got skating! I fell down once, but it was no big deal. I’m glad I got out there and did it!

greets the new year with hope and excitement
One of my fears is going into the woods alone. We have several acres of woods outside our house. So I went down some trails. I walked in the woods for about 30 minutes! It was great! Not that scary. But I did get freaked out in the beginning. Great timing. A few feet down the first trail, I saw a bloody bird wing stuck in a tree. Eeeek!
Well, anyway, I’m hoping to go again soon!

-the dark: can fall asleep in the dark now. I just wait until my eyes adjust and then it’s not really dark anymore; until then I just stay calm and tell myself there’s nothing to be afraid of.
-being judged: I wouldn’t say I have this beat but I am working on it
-being emotionally vulnerable: told my mom some things that hurt to talk about but I think it was good for me, and she needed to hear it.

can't get that song out of her head
I’m still somewhat heartbroken over a past boyfriend and all my efforts to delete him from my mind have been pointless. I did however start dating again and for whatever reason this incredible guy I met enjoys my company. I don’t know him that well but we’re already talking about vacations and christmas presents. My intial response was to “cut and run” as this type of committment is terrifying for me and it seems like we’re in a relationship already. I started getting panicky and felt trapped when we started hanging out all the time. This guy is almost perfect and I’m rolling my eyes when he tells me how much he likes me….WTF! But I’m really trying hard not to be scared. I’m trying to open up. But falling in love is a leap of faith and I’m not sure if I can believe.
Hi…my name is McQueen18 and I’m a fearful little girl, afraid to get her heart broken.

The easiest ones I have plans for:
-horses: I’ve been petting their noses lately and I have an opportunity to ride, so I think I will take that opportunity and try to make friends with these beasties. Everyone else thinks they are so gentle and wonderful…
-wildcats: OK I think this is less of a fear and more a perfectly reasonable “Concern” over them clawing me to death and eating my face. Still, I can take comfort in the fact that they are not super prevalent, in fact I’ve never come into contact with one in the wild. I looked up what you should do if you DO come across one…same general strategy as a bear, look big and don’t run (Yeah right!) And if they attack, FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT. Maybe knowing what to do will help me feel less fearful when alone in the woods.

I made a list
Maybe not a complete list, but a list of my fears. Some are easier to tackle than others. I also came up with a new way of dealing with fear. It has to do with my inner voice… instead of convincing myself that my fear is unfounded and what I fear will not come to pass, instead I will tell myself I can handle it if it does.
For example, I was scared the other day of getting lost in the woods by myself. It was getting dark and I was on an unfamiliar trail. And I use the word “trail” loosely here.
Usually I would tell myself “I’m not going to get lost, don’t worry.” But instead this time I decided to say to myself, “I’m strong and I’m brave and I can do this.” That makes me feel stronger than “Don’t worry, it won’t happen” (Which I never fully believe anyhow!)

can't get that song out of her head
I catch shoplifters for a living. Usually its a very boring job and when you catch someone they come back to the office quietly with their heads hung in shame. But this one guy decided to start fighting my partner. I ran up, dove on top of the guy, went crashing into three glass shelves and wrestled him to the ground. I’m 5’7, 125lbs. He was 5’9”, 230lbs. So now I know that I’m not really afraid of getting physically hurt. Now I want to be fearless from being emotionally hurt which is even scarier then the shoplifter. I also want to be fearless of being judged, failing, and of moths. Yes moths, they’re gross.
