they are rediculously expensive ATM. Also conflicts with my previous goal

The other night on the news was a local man who creates his own windmills (the smaller kind on tall poles), has his home operating off them and has now started a small business. It definitely interested me. From the look of them, I think my homeowners association would probably be okay with them, too – they look pretty decorative, like something you would just place in your garden. I wrote down what information I heard and am planning to look up the man to find out more about this and if it would be feasible for me. We’ll see. It’s not solar, but it’s a start – and might even be a less expensive alternative for me at this point. We’ll see.

I live in Queensland – “the sunshine state” – may as well use it. Fitting them in the budget is the next thing

It surprises (and saddens) me 5 months ago

that I live in Florida, we have so much sun so much of the year and the use of solar energy is still so limited. Granted, it’s gotten better (I’m seeing more street lights and signs along the roads with small panels to generate their energy), but it still seems to be such an untapped resource here.

I would love to install solar panels on my house and one day get off the grid (perhaps even sell some of my generated energy back to the power company), but financially I’ll have to do this in baby steps. Perhaps start with the hot water heater and go from there. I’d really like to have my own wind turbine, but I think that may be against HOA covenants. :( So I’ll do what I can. And hopefully I’ll get my water heater working off solar energy within the year. That will be the goal.

large solar panels just to run the watering system with the timer. So that’s all on its own and takes care of itself. I guess we could use the electricity for other things, too, but that’d be harder to hook up.
