Worth doing!

I learned Spanish in high school & college. Then, in college I learned Mandarin. Working for Intel, I learned Mandarin and Japanese.

Unfortunately, I have not retained any of these languages because of lack of use.

But, they served their purpose and i got to have a good working knowledge during that time.

Italian!  — 18 hours ago

I want to learn another language, not for any particular reason, but just for myself and for fun. I was trying to decide between French and Italian and leaning towards French because it is more practical. But I like the way Italian sounds more, so Italian it is.

Going pretty well  — 5 days ago

I learnt Spanish at school for five years, but not well enough. That was a long time ago, too, and it’s all gone from my head. Being that I live with guys from Mexico, Argentina and Spain, this would be a great goal to accomplish – and talking to them will always help.

I’ve started learning through a podcast, and am finding it the best method I’ve tried yet. I’m really enthusiastic about languages, and this would be a great start. Hopefully, one day, I’ll become fluent. That’s not such an unreasonable goal. Though, then, I’d just want to start learning another one!

For radio-news listeners. BBC broadcasts in different languages. Good way to absorb the language if you can’t afford classes.

I feel so ignorant just knowing English when other countries are brought up learning our language. Why doesn’t America have stronger programs for children to learn other languages fluently? It’s always upsetted me. I’m taking German now and want to become fluent in it as well as Spanish, French, and Italian.

on my vacation to quebec and montreal i have been inspired to learn french. but my school only offers one language: spanish. i think i also want to learn chinese. so i’ll have to beg my parents to pay for lessons. probably end up paying half of it myself. gosh money makes the world go round and with an allowance of 40$ a month and difficult parents its hard. but i’ll try to stay optimistic.
