Get a book published

just joined this.

how many social networking/goal setting sites can I join. I should make a list, and realize where the majority of my effort goes… which ones should I spend more time with? Which ones, did I join, and never do anything with?

Walt Whitman Award
A prize of $5,000, publication by Louisiana State University Press, and a one-month residency at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson is given annually for a poetry collection by a U.S. citizen who has not published a book of poems in a standard edition. Submit a manuscript of 50 to 100 pages with a $25 entry fee between September 15 and November 15. Send an SASE or visit the Web site for the required application and complete guidelines. I have been talking with someone about the concept of a business book. It looks like it might fly. I am trying to see whether my company would object, but if not then we may go for it.

I have now posted a few more double page spreads from Written in Crayon which is my humorous collections of excerpts from fictional books. I have also altered the image sizes to make them more readable. It kind of messes up the whole blog layout, but makes the book legible, which mattes more. I would welcome comments on the book bits you can see there as more will follow.

I am also debating writing a book on the pitfalls you can encounter within start up companies as they grow. It is the sort of topic where I have a fair degree of expertise, so I would want to see if a publisher might be interested before I started.

A friend has helped me format the manuscript, edit it, create a cover and print a few copies on Lulu. I owe him bigtime. It’s so cool seeing it as a ‘real’ book – and it makes it easier to ask other people to read it. People react differently to a book than they do to a very large pile of A4 paper… can’t imagine why!? I’d still love to get it published for real though.

I am considering whether I ought to actually wirte a book for mainstream publication some time when I have nothing too much else to do.

I’m thrilled to say that I am writing another chapter in my book. I’m so excited about this because I have been at a standstill for a while with the last chapter, but now words seems to be flowing from me again which makes me happy!

I want to take my negative past history, and focus on the positive ways I have grown, developed, and coped. I think of it more as a how to for living in simplicity and comfort, even when the world doesn’t always cooperate.

It’s the kind of self-help notion, that is not dependent on catastrophe, but can certainly add brightness to the rough spots.

The Literary Agency Group is a SCAM! Which sucks. But it’s ok, because that means I’ll have to look elsewhere.

right now, I’ve responded to Craigslist posts. I want to find a REAL editor!

I submitted a book – a collection of short stories, really – to a publisher. Now I’m waiting for a response.
