    aquifer is working on it

couple of months perhaps 3 weeks ago

i stopped when i got into college and realized i no longer had time to study both piano and violin and have time for academics and sports. (overachiever, initially) so i dropped violin after 11 years. damn near broke my heart doing it, but my roommate couldn’t stand the noise. i figured playing a violin is probably around the same as riding a bike. once you know how to do it, you’ll never forget. so now i’m soon to graduate and i’ll have time to pick it up again, hopefully, without the aggravated neighbors. going to need a hell of a lot of practice to get back to where i was though.

I can start doing this soon 3 months ago

I’ve been living in flats in London for the past 15+ years and sound travels so far and not everyone likes to hear practice. I’ve also been ill for all this time and although not fully recovered I’m better than I was.

Next week we’re moving to our own house and I won’t have to worry about the neighbours as long as I keep the windows shut ;)

I won’t be able to play for hours like I used to (I don’t have the time for a start but also don’t have the energy) but I’m looking forward to seeing what I remember after all this time.

It makes me sad to think I was not the only one who played the violin, stopped playing and want to play again. Call it naivety, but there you go.

I played the violin from 8 – 19 years of age and gave it up. I was in an auto accident and broke my left wrist which made my once lovely playing sound not so lovely.

I miss the violin and decided to tell perfectionist tendencies to bugger off and want to take it up again.

I wish owned a violin; I used to rent one for all 7 years of my lessons. Looking back, I feel guilty that my parents paid for all of my lessons and supplies…and for what? So I could sit around and forget which strings are which?

    I am so, so ungrateful.

I’m listening to lots of classical music on lastfm.com to recover the feeling

I got my violin out today, for the first time in ages, having been inspired by listening to music a friend of mine wrote while holding the score in my hands. I could almost smell the wood of my violin.. so I got it out, tuned it (I can still tune the fifths by ear! yes!), and played. Unfortunately I only had 15 minutes before work so all I played was D and G major scales, over and over until they were back in tune, including the shifts to 3rd position. It felt so good – maybe I’ll really be able to do this.

I performed “Arlington” at a ceremony to honor a man who was killed in the Vietnam war. It was very moving. I can’t wait to keep playing.
