Space Shuttle Launch — 6 days ago
That would be so totally amazing.
And, I know Andrew would love it, too!
Guess that means a trip to Florida someday.

Not worth it!
went to jetty park in florida and watched a shuttle launch. it was pretty cool. i suggest doing it but it is not to die for,
I was on my honeymoon back in ‘99 in Orlando and was sitting in my room watching the news before bed… They mentioned that the shuttle was just getting ready to launch and showed the countdown. It was only minutes away.
So, even being about 50 miles away, I figured I’d grab my cameras and go try and watch it.
I walked outside T minus 1 minute... And just after the launch, I could see the most brilliant object I'd ever seen in the sky. It was still awesome even 50 miles. I watched it until the booster rockets detached and the shuttle itself slowly faded into the starry sky.
Camera didn’t catch it due to condensation from leaving my ice cold hotel room…

I live in florida near the cape. I’ve seen most of them. The night time ones are the raddest.
But i can’t imagine how it would be in real life. I think they just look spectacular.
Tried for the Feb, 2008 launch but weather in the Midwest canceled my flight and missed seeing it.
Had last minute VIP access for the night launch in March, 2008 through my girlfriend’s family, but too expensive to do at last minute. :(
Was planning for the April, 2008 launch and they moved that to May, 2008 (memorial weekend) so booked my tickets for that. They then moved at the last minute to May 31st, 2008. :(
I’m planning my trips at the same time of going to see my girlfriend. Hopefully, I’ll get to see a launch before they retire the Shuttle fleet.

Worth doing!
Wow, it actually happened. Got into Orlando around 2, got the rental despite a few delays, but made it out to a viewing area along the coast in Titusville. Saw the Shuttle take off after all these years. It is just hard to wrap my head around the concept of seeing a giant machine blast off and go into orbit within fifteen minutes or so. Just awe inspiring. We were too far away to “feel” it, but definitely heard the sound after about 30 seconds. It is so bright ... that is one thing the TV doesn’t begin do justice to. So glad I got a chance to see this.

Matthew asks,
“How common is it that launches get postponed, and how many days in a row is it typical to have to wait for a launch?”
