i never thought i would learn to needle knit in the first place, so when i conquered continental purling i figured ‘the world is my oyster’ or however that goes. . . i haven’t knitted anything extensive using cables, but i have a 3 inch square knit in kitchen cotton with cables on it. . . i sit my brillo pad on it to keep from staining the ceramic sink. . .

I learn to do this, but I don’t use cables much in my knitting. However, I’m glad I taught myself. It’s easier than it looks.
Cables just look so wonderful and complex but when you’ve practiced a bit it’s easier. My favorite is the saxon braid. I could do that on everything. To excess probably but I’d love it.

I was commissioned by a friend to make a cabled scarf, so I gave it a shot the other day. It was a little tricky at first, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. It looks really cool. The cable I started with was pretty simple… So my next step is learning to read the charts.
I bought the book “The All New…Teach Yourself to Knit”. It is the book I used when I first started knitting garments. There is a section on doing a ‘sampler’ which includes knitting cables.
