If I learn a second language, it will be an enormous help towards getting me to the career I want. When I take my year off from school after I graduate, I’m going to dedicate myself to the studying of Hindi.

My best friend at age 3 was half Indian. My last boyfriend was Bengali, and he’s not the only Indian that I hold especially dear.

The language is Indo-European, bearing some similarities to other languages I like: Spanish/Romance, English, Arabic.

India is hot and colourful, certainly I will see it someday. My (first) published short story was set in India. As a kid growing up in Nigeria, we watched a few Indian films a hundred times. Today, I’m listening to the music from Dharam Veer (1977 film that we watched almost daily on holidays, and it’s hauntingly beautiful.

It seems I would enjoy at least learning the Hindu alphabet. My goal is no more than this, just the most basic knowledge of Hindi.

Sorry I write/brag so much.

I’ve always loved languages and Hindi became my first choice… To learn a language well you have to find constant inspiration and Indian culture is a nice resource… if anyone is willing to learn and share there is a nice community for Hindi learners here http://hindies.ning.com
