STFU1337 is getting ready to be AWESOME!

okay 4 weeks ago

i have some serious plans for this.
i am going to do this
when i have
300 extra dollars to spend
i have lost 10 pounds
and i have a weekend to go to san francisco/berkely.
i’m going to hit up the thrift stores there, where the are endless possibilities.
this could be totally possible, cause i can get the money within a few weeks, and i can ask for timr off basically anytime.
i just want to reward myself
by this spree
after
i
lose
ten
pounds
which could take
months
and
months
:[[

but if i’m optimistic, maybe 1 or 2 months?

Waiting until next week. Tuesday, all Volunteers of America are half off, and then on Wednesday, all Ohio Thrift stores are half off. It’s a total pain to go when so many other people do, but the deals are worth it.

Big bag for small potatoes 1 year ago

We just got back from hitting a new Sally Ann that no-one seems to have discovered yet. They didn’t even have a window display up when we got there (although, magically; there was one when we left).

Rolling with the magic; 9 out of 10 things that I tried on fit beautifully. I passed on a pair of jeans that weren’t quite right (mom-rise?), but I came home with a bag chock full of wonderful things.

I’m still aiming for colours and patterns (not just black, black, black), and got a lovely plum sweater with mother of pearl buttons, a monochrome tiki-flavored summer dress that fit, a bold patterned Sandra Angelozzi skirt, & a corset-style black and blue top with black lace trim.

I found some insane pink Italian high-tops that I couldn’t decide if I loved or found obnoxious, so I let the price ($4) decide. I even found something with cherries.

Markus scooped a pair of levi’s and an animated Cat in the Hat movie for Isak, and we barely cracked over $20.

WHeeeeeeee! So fun.

Always worth a look 2 years ago

I look in the op-shops all the time. I’ve gotten some amazing stuff. Even found one of the compulsory text books for a subject I was doing at uni. It was in perfect condition and cost me $5… at the uni book shop it was $100.

You just need to think when op-shopping. Avoid impulse buying there just as much as you should anywhere else. It’s easy to think that anything is a bargain when you’re paying as as little as a dollar for it… but it all adds up, and it’s like pouring money down the drain if it’s not something you really want or need.

Wheeeeee! VV Spree! 2 years ago

That was so fun! We drove out to Burnaby and hit a bunch of the thrift stores. Value Village was the most fun…

I got a whole bunch of stuff: pink mavi cords, a supercute little black vintage-style skirt with pink whales stitched all over it and pink ribbon across the bottom, a embroidered old navy tank, a Vivienne Westwood black & white pinstriped shirt, and a beat up brown tee that says “Cowgirls & Outlaws have more fun at the Bandit’s Lounge since 1975”.

Half the clothes still had their original tags on them, which is a little weird for a thrift store.

Oh, and Markus found some great 80’s tapes for the car too… we spent less than $30 on everything. Yei-haw!

It was fun. 2 years ago

I found two prom dresses at the thrift store. When I figure out how to upload pictures I’ll post it. It was a beautiful dress. That and some awesome Tripp pants that just need to be sewn up.

Couldn't do it 2 years ago

I feel horrible about this, but I really did fail this goal. My friends and I went to a local Out of the Closet to look at some clothes. This was our collective first time.

We left in about 15 min, emptyhanded.

It makes me feel so spoiled and elitist that I can’t buy secondhand clothes from strangers. At least it did until I remembered the secondhand underground stores in China that sell name brand clothes, still worth hundreds of dollars.

So I feel that I’m not really spoiled. I just look for quality.

And a lack of smell on my clothes.

So scenemo 2 years ago

My friend and I are in love with the kitsch of the current teen fashion scene characterized by “emo” clothing. Not too sure what this means, but its fun anyhow.

So we plan to go out thrift shopping on Saturday to look for some choice “scene” clothes to play around in.

Did I mention we’re a fan of dressup games?
