I was born in Galati, Romania and I have to say that, after visiting the entire country is one of the most beautiful places I have seen. It may not be the kind of beauty many are accustomed too, but if you love tradition, history and people, Romania is the place to go.
I would recommend visiting the cities of Brasov, Timisoara, Suceava, Constanta and all the castles and historical monuments and monastery you can find, especially in northern Moldova and Transylvania.
You might want to keep away from the large industrialized cities; not much to see there and a little dirty for western standards.
But, if you do not go for the history, tradition and spirituality go for the women, the most beautiful women I have ever seen, excepting maybe Danish ones.
i was born in romania, but i have not seen the main castles, monestaries etc.i would go there for 2 months at a time but to be with family and party.next time i go i will definetlly have to travel around the country
must go to romania to learn this shukaria song, any one with lyrics here?
i seriously believed i was going to die. i went in february, by myself, for one week. i didn’t eat anything except bread and tea, (besides the carp and mushy corn bread that made me want to puke). they serve beer at room temperature, i didn’t get a wink of sleep from all the stray dogs barking all night, and i couldn’t even get a vodka tonic at a bar. also, homosexuality wasn’t even legalized in romania until 2001, so there’s roughly three gay bars in the entire country (not that that’s necessarily a problem for everyone). IF you do go, make sure to bring a friend so you can laugh about how miserable you are, bring extra cash incase you can’t get to a bank because nobody takes credit cards, and don’t go november-may. i’m sticking to western europe.
That’s what I noticed while I was in Romania – everything there is so much older than it is in the United States, and in a good way. There is so much history there. I suggest seeing some castles, the bridge with the lions on it (great story there), and if you have time, go to Timisoara and see the site where the revolution against Communism started (do a google search).
