"giving up" is so harsh...  — 1 week ago

It’s not that I’m giving up. It’s just not an immediate goal of mine right now, and I’d like to put more focus and more energy into the goals that are more immediate.

Yes, of course, one day I’d love to continue my education. And I’d like to think that that “one day” will be relatively soon. But I have a new job that I love, and in the meantime I’d like to work hard at that, and see where it leads me next.

J has three more years of med school, and my latest thought is to pursue grad school in the next city we live in when he’s a crazy-busy resident.

First, I need to work on discipline for myself. I know I can work hard, and I do work hard, but I really want to refine my discipline before attending grad school.

(And as always, it’d help if I could figure out what I’d want an advanced degree in!))

I hope to be able to do this one day, even though...  — 1 week ago

it seems like I might never get there. I am still paying off my student loan for my Bachelor’s degree, I have car payments, and I couldn’t even get ahead faster by working two jobs! I was a religion major for my undergrad degree, so I actually hope to be able to go to seminary. My spiritual adviser encourages me, however, by stating that if God wanted me to go then I would. That does help…

Goal postponed  — 2 weeks ago

So I applied to six graduate programs of which five have denied my admission. I guess that I’ll just have to try again next year…and hopefully the result will be different!

MBA Proud!  — 1 month ago

Worth doing!

This is worth doing no matter your age or station in life. I earned a BBA in my early twenties and waited until I was over 40 years old to enter grad school. I earned a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) in 2006. If I had it to do all over again – would I? YES! I have always been pro education. Now I am a role model for my sons and other young folk. There are no limits to what you set out to achieve in life. If you can believe it, you can achieve it. With God all things are possible. Education will open more doors for you and take you places you may have never thought about.

Personal Statement  — 2 months ago

I have decided to rework my personal statement. Hopefully this updated version will have more of an influence on the admissions committee’s decision.

Tomorrow I’ll take it to the writing center at my school, have them review it for errors, make any necessary corrections, share it with my career counselor, and drop it in the mail.

GRE-check.  — 2 months ago

Ok, GRE’s done. Here is the timeline:

As soon as I get back to HN, I will narrow down my list of schools to apply to. I’m shooting for four.

Over the summer, I will work on writing my personal statement and tweaking it for various schools.

When fall comes, and schools in the US are back in session, I will contact my colleges about my transcripts and my former advisors about letters of recommendations. At the same time, I will obtain letters of recommendation from current employers, and former if necessary.

I will submit applications before I set off traveling at the end of October.

FRUSTRATION  — 2 months ago

I received word from two of the programs to which I applied…both denied me! Gonzaga stated that I didn’t fit into their “matrix”...whatever the hell that means. Montevallo (my alma mater) said that my GPA needed to be “slightly higher”. They must think I’m a miracle worker…

Oh well, I didn’t really want to go there anyway. At least I’m still in the running for my top two programs: St. Ambrose and Dominican. They’ll be making decisions sometime in July and I’m feeling good about my chances!

I'm going to go...  — 2 months ago

I want to go to grad school. If anyone knows of a good media program on the West Coast (US) please let me know! :) Thank you!

I’m going because I want to learn. I’m going because the way things are make me angry. I’m going because I want to learn how to change them. I’m going because I know I’m brilliant and the world is waiting for me to find ways to fix the problems in today’s media.
