I went to the Great Wall of China but I was with a few people and one insisted we take the cable car, didn’t have enough time to enjoy it thoroughly got to go back and hike it to really enjoy this.
Its a dream of mine to hike the entire length of the great wall. Some 1,800 miles and that only makes me want it even more. Anyone else really serious about accomplishing the most arduous yet rewarding journey of a lifetime?
stagebunny needs a new crush.
The author had hiked parts of the wall. Several side trips were needed around the impassible parts and ruins. I want to do as much of it as possible. There are a lot of cultural and political barriers to overcome, also. I would see it as a sequel to my Appalachian Trail through-hike that I want to take.
Saph is being a night owl, as usual!
I thought the same thing, until I realised the Great Wall is 6,700kms long.
However with that being said, a relatively healthy person could probably average roughly 35kms a day (8 hours of walking). Therefore it would take about 191 days – just over 6 months.
I’ve thought about perhaps doing it in sections (although that wouldn’t be the same – would it?) if you could do it for a month per year you could do the walk in about 6 – 7 years.
It’s a mind boggling concept, but then people would’ve travelled that way for many years before modern transportation.
Maybe not everyone’s cup of tea but if I ever had the chance, sure I’d go for it!
walk the whole thing. i dont care how long
it takes. i want to do this on my trip around
the world.
