Get ready to move

ATLfemme is waiting to hear back from the realtor on the rental home.

Target Moving Date: Weekend of 1/16 thru 1/19/09 2 days ago

Major tasks:
1) finalize destination (where exactly am I moving TO?) and execute the paperwork
2) find contact info for turn up on all utilities and schedule activations in advance
3) reserve a truck
4) graciously accept friends’ offers to help (it’s hard for me to accept help, but the fact is that I do need “all hands on deck” – and I have to trust that they would not offer if they did not want to do it)
5) purge items I don’t need to move (this will be its own sub-task)
6) actually pack
7) actually move
8) unpack

I want to get things cleaned out and organized 2 weeks ago

so that when I decide that it’s time, it will be easy to either move things to a different place, or to put my things in storage.

The most frustrating thing is that I finally have some nice furniture and things. I wish I didn’t. I wish I had a table that my friends’ toddlers could beat on, chew, scribble on, etc without triggering my inner “ACK!” voice, instead of this lovely antique that is worth more than my car. Also, I’m not excited about paying for storage for all of the stuff I’ve accumulated. And the dressers…. gorgeous antiques, not really to my taste, much more of a bother and an inconvenience for someone like me.

These are pieces that belong in family homes – long-term, stable family homes. I’d like to feel free to move, or to sublet without worries.

... this was one of the easiest moves I’ve ever had.

Done! 5 months ago

It was quite a busy day moving all my stuff – a blanket, a chewie bone, my favorite blue turtle tug-of-war toy, and my food & water dishes. Whew!

Check this as Done. 5 months ago

I’m moved – and it didn’t take all that long. After all, as most of you remember, I left Arizona with only one carload of my stuff. But that’s okay. Everything is so much better now, and I’m happy.

I’m in the new apartment over the office, and it’s verrrry nice. There’s a lot to be said for an eleven second commute to work, and there’s a lot to be said for living and working in the same building. I never really leave the office. But I expect that to change once my new assistant (I fired the first one last week) gets trained and is comfortable taking over the office on my days off.

It’s good to be back among friends! How IS everybody?

It's Been Slow Goin'... 6 months ago

but it’s finally coming together – not without more than its share of bumps along the way.

After seven or eight failed inspections, I finally opened the office on June 12th. Once construction inspection passed, the boys forgot about the apartment and ditched working on it for a week. I had to get on the construction superintendent’s case, and the boys showed up again to finish the job. I should be moving late this week (but I won’t hold my breath).

I’ve been working my days off (had only two days off in the last three weeks) and finally have another two days off (yesterday and today). The woman I hired is a lying, lazy beeyotch who “forgets” to do what I ask. Since her background check came back with facts other than the ways he presented them (uh-hem) I have approval to let her go. Although I wanted to dump her immediately, my boss wants me to find her replacement first. I don’t like to work that way, but he insists, so now I scrambling to find someone else. No stress. No pressure. (cough! hack!)

No, I’m not yet back on 43. Some of you have sent messages to check up on me – Thank you! How sweet! – so I just wanted to dash off a quick note. I’ve looked at my e-mail maybe three times in the last few weeks and don’t expect that to change much for the next couple weeks ahead.

But it’s all good! I’m happy to be busy! After being unemployed for so long, it’s great to be swamped! I feel good rising to all the challenges brought on by new job on a newly constructed site.

Hugs to All!

Get Moving Boxes 7 months ago

Well we are suppose to be totally out of our place by June 30th, thats 26 days from now and we still haven’t found a new place yet. I’ve put an application in at one place but I haven’t heard back yet. :(

I need to start thinking about packing since we have so much crap. First I need to get boxes!!!

Less than two months! 7 months ago

My goal is to be 100% ready to move on moving day, which is the first of August. My husband and I are pretty efficient once we get going, but we get tired or sidetracked or bored and lose momentum. Always scrambling, it seems. I think this time might be the time that we’re ahead of the game.

I’ve already got my money saved for my share of the deposit, etc. The next month or so is going to be taken up hunting for houses to rent (We’re trying, again, to get out of apartments). We’ll also be sorting through our stuff to get rid of… I’d like to get rid of some more books, some of our kitchen stuff that we’ve never once used, and some clothing.

It’s hard, because even though the move is less than two months away, we’re so settled in here that it doesn’t feel like we should be picking up and moving. Most of the previous places I’ve lived I’ve always been anxious to get going and move on.

Everything Has Changed. 7 months ago

There were three construction inspections performed Tuesday, and all three failed. As of right now, here’s what that means: the office will open a week later, and the apartment will be three weeks later. :(

Yesterday’s laugh of the day was finding the mini-fridge (previous post) all nice and pretty in the den. hahahahaha! I should be more careful with what I say to stoopid people.

Hahahahaha! 7 months ago

Just to set the record straight, I’m not high-maintenance.

Appliances were installed this week, and I was having a hard time trying to convince the installation crew that the mini-fridge didn’t belong in the apartment. They installed the regular refrigerator/freezer and had a mini-fridge “leftover” they didn’t know what to do with. I told them it probably belongs in the office break room.
Installation Guy: But it says right on the carton that it goes upstairs.
Me: Yeah, but there’s already a refrigerator up here. I’m sure this one goes in the break room downstairs.
Inst.Guy: I don’t know. It says on the box ‘2nd floor’.
Me: Well, I guess I could put it in the second bedroom along with a pool table… No, I’m positive the it goes downstairs in the break room.
Inst.Guy: I don’t know… It might fit next to the counter over here…
Me: Yeah, I think it makes more sense to have one large refrigerator upstairs in the apartment and a mini-fridge downstairs in the employee break room.
Inst.Guy: I don’t know… It says right here ‘2nd floor’ right on the box. See? I think we should leave it up here.
Me: Yeah, I know, but… Waddaya say we do something crazy like take it downstairs to the employee break room? Can we be okay with that?

As it turned out, he could not be okay with that. The mini-fridge is upstairs in my living room until Installation Guy gets approval from someone (other than me) to put it in the break room downstairs.

Please, everyone, force your children to stay in school.
