learn danish

I have a head start with this one! Last year completed a course in Danish but it was only pretty basic and it was a whole year ago! I tried to continue learning the language but is not so easy to find a tutor. However, now I live in Denmark! Wahoo! (yes, do feel sorry for the Danes!) So now I have a good chance to practise… if only Danish people would speak to me in Danish and not English!

I am making good progress! Or so say my boyfriend because I feel like I am still completely butchering the language with my French-Americano accent. haha. Love the book that I found though (Beginner’s Danish by Nete Schmidt), it has two CDS and I listen to the lessons on my Ipod all the time. Very very useful and I can’t wait to be closer to speaking it well!

I LOVE DENMARK, and I’m trying to learn Danish :) I just know how to say Hej (hello) and Prins (Prince). I learned how to pronunce the “Ø” :)

I also have a CD of a Danish Band “Hej Matematik!”, is amazing! :)

I want to learn Danish, I have got CD’s and CD Rom’s but I want a native Dane to teach me. I have been looking for a personal tutor but I cannot find one…its driving me insane, ha. I work for an airline and wanting to move to Denmark next year and work for a Danish airline, but I need to learn Danish. Can sombody help me? I live in yorkshire, so speak the words left by the Danes in the viking times lol…

I’m learning and it’s great. And really funny. So just try it! I enjoy it so much.

I cracked myself up yesterday, and put dozens of yellow stickers everywhere in the house to learn the Danish names of all those little things that surround me :) Hehe. It is making the place quite stylish oh believe me. And since Troels tries to learn some French too, I added the French equivalents. Welcome to my silly world :)

Finding tutors has proven to be quite a challenge, hence I will try and find other ways of learning, including:
- using that Rosetta Stone software daily, even though I am not at all a big fan of it
- building my own set of flash cards to better remember vocab
- listen to the Danish radio as often as I can
- try and speak it with my boyfriend even if I am incredibly intimidated because I just wish I could impress him

I started learning Danish about 7 months ago, and I really enjoy it. I’ve picked it up rather quickly, but now my plans for studying there fell through. My first thought was just disappointment that I didn’t have a reason to continue studying it, but I want to keep going with it regardless – maybe I can visit for a weekend next year and put it to the test. I just worry that it will get pushed aside for more immediate things, and I won’t get much further.

Hopefully I don’t get banned out of Denmark by the Danes fur butchering their language :) Here is how I think it is going to go – for at least the first few months:

Step 1. Find a teacher I like once I move to NYC
Step 2. Set up weekly time to meet for a lesson (might have to go private since it will most likely have to accomodate my work & traveling schedule)
Step 3. Practice practice pratice. Lucky I have the most wonderful boyfriend to do that with :)
